“Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God.” 1 Corinthians 4:1
How beautiful this scripture is. The MSG translation sheds more light on it; “Don’t imagine us leaders to be something we aren’t. We are servants of Christ not his masters. We are guides into God’s most sublime secrets, not security guards posted to protect them”. There are two things in the scripture that has been committed into our hands: the Gospel of Christ and the mysteries of God.
The word mysteries is derived from the Greek word “mustêriôn” which means knowledge withheld and knowledge revealed to the initiated. The mysteries of God is a revelation of the life of God: ZOE. Both the Gospel of Christ and the mysteries of God are important.

The mysteries of God would not show its full effect and potential in your life until the Gospel of Christ is dwelling fully in you. That is, only one who has given himself in totality to the Gospel of Christ will get to experience the mysteries of God.
God expects every one of us not to reflect the human life we have received when we were naturally born, but He expects us to reflect His kind of life.
Jesus had expressly explained that the mysteries of the kingdom were open to the disciples. Matthew 13:11 says, “He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.” They were entrusted with the knowledge of God’s secrets.
As stewards, Paul and other ministers were entrusted with the mysteries of God and are expected to teach them. God wants to make manifest His mysteries that had been concealed for generations through us.
We have been specially called to make this truth known to the world. Little wonder, Colossians 1:26 says, “Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints”.
1 Corinthians 2:7 says, “But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory”.
The wisdom of God in the Gospel was a mystery hidden (knowledge withheld) until Christ came (knowledge revealed). Apostle Paul understood the commitment of the mysteries of God.
When a man understands the mysteries of God, He would know that he is on a mission and A MAN ON A MISSION CAN NEVER BE KILLED. For this reason, Mark 16:18 says, “They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.”
You are a custodian of the mysteries of God. As the Message rendering of our opening text puts it, we are guides into God’s most sublime secrets. We have been called to show the world the mysteries of God.
