“With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men: Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether [he be] bond or free.” Ephesians 6:7-8

The NIV rendering says;

“Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men, because you know that the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free.”

In our world today, everyone wants to become a leader. But they fail to understand that leadership is founded on followership (your heart of followership).

When you see a man that claims to be a leader yet he has no heart of followership, such a man becomes a tyrant.

For example, take Moses and Pharaoh as a case study. Pharaoh was trained to be a leader; he had no clue what followership was. In the long run, he became a tyrant/an oppressor. Moses could have been like pharaoh; but God took him into the wilderness for 40 years to train him to become a better servant so he could be a better leader.
Leadership is founded on service.
Your ability to lead is dependent on your ability to follow.

Followership defines total submission. Take for example, Elijah and Elisha. 1 Timothy 6:1 says;

“Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and [his] doctrine be not blasphemed.”

The place of a leader exposes you to the Spirit of Humility and the Spirit of Authority. Leadership could also give room for another Spirit, which is pride.
Pride is synonymous with self and ego. This is one of the wrong things that emanates with leadership.
Pride is the only thing God resists. For you to be a true and effective leader, you have got to constantly kill every nature of pride/self in you.
There is this drive to do a whole lot more when self dies. When a man has pride, he cannot have a servant heart. Such a man can never be led. If you cannot be led, you cannot lead. God delights in selfless servants. He seeks men who would serve with a good attitude and zero self.
Do not seek positions, rather seek service. This is what defines you as a leader.
DECLARATION
I offer reasonable and intelligent service at all times. I serve with the right heart at always. I do not seek position; rather, I seek service.
