“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” Proverbs 4:23
The heart is the most vital organ in the human body. It is the source and centre of life. As long as the heart is capable of receiving and propelling the blood, life continues. In its absence, life seizes to exist. The heart is the fountain whence all the streams of life proceed. As such, care must be taken that the fountain be not stopped up nor injured. A double watch for its safety must be kept up. The streams of life flow from the heart, this is why it is of extreme importance that you ‘keep’ your heart with all diligence.
To keep your heart means to guard it.
The AMP rendering of our opening text says,
“Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life.”
It is your responsibility to safeguard your heart with all caution, observation and alertness. This is because the heart is the depository of all wisdom and the source of whatever affects life and character. Geography teaches that every river or stream has a source. Once that source becomes contaminated, every of its outlets becomes affected.

The heart of a man is his source of life. When the heart of a man becomes polluted, his entire life becomes affected.
You see, God would always search the heart. God does not search the soul or body, but He is constantly searching, testing and grading the heart.
It is God’s greatest desire to make you (His child) a blessing and a channel through which many can obtain prosperity. But all this depends on the state of your heart.
When God gives you wealth, the state of your heart determines what you will do with it.
Matthew 12:35 says,
“A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.”
God seeks to renew your mind, enlighten your understanding, correct your judgment, and refine your will. This is why you have got to guard your heart.
Be cautious of the information that gets into your heart. words are seeds; every word spoken to you has the ability to grow. Do all to keep your heart!
