Monday daily devotional by Pastor David Okoye (Ambassadors Word Diet, 18th SEPT, 2017) – The refining process

I’ll deliver the surviving third to the refinery fires. I’ll refine them as silver is refined, test them for purity as gold is tested. Then they’ll pray to me by name and I’ll answer them personally. I’ll say, “That’s my people”. They’ll say, God- my God! Zechariah 13:9 (MSG)

Have you ever wondered how silver is refined and how gold is tested (tried)? They go through the hardest and toughest conditions just so the beauty in them would be brought out.

When you look at gold in its raw, unrefined state, it is in no way attractive. All that is needed to get it refined is the fire.

Gold and silver are probably the most beautiful things in the world. They go through tough and harsh conditions for their purity to be confirmed. But after the trying, we see the beauty that emancipates from them. This is how it is for the Christian also.

The blacksmith would not stop heating the gold until he is able to see his reflection through that gold. We are God’s gold. He wants to bring out the gold in us so He takes us through the fire; and just like the blacksmith, He would not stop heating the fire until He sees His reflection, His image in us.

The only way to get perfect is through the fire.

Our refinement comes from God’s Word. For every time you take God’s Word into yourself, it refines you and everything that pertains to you.

The refining process was designed to bring out the quality of God in you.

God wants you to grow from being a child into becoming a son. In order for a child to prove himself as a son, he is supposed to be tried.

Trying is a means of observing the strength of a Christian and how rooted He is in God’s Word. Even after undergoing refinement, you still need to be tried so you’ll be ready to be showcased to the world.

You have to go through the fire. The fire is not designed to kill you; it is only trying you. The MSG rendering of our opening text says we’ll be tested for purity as gold is tested. After the trying, the result would be worth it.

Before you can be approved as a son, you must be refined.
