That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. 1 John 1:3

Our Christian devotion is by far the most significant and essential amongst all. It is a very vital part of your Christian walk. The much you receive from the Lord is dependent on how much you spend time fellowshipping with Him.

Whatever the Lord blesses you with can never be sustained without consistent devotion. Sadly, so many Christians have substituted their Christian devotion for their Christian service. They are fully engaged in service, yet they spend no time with Him.

These ones have substituted their walk with God with their work for Him. Your personal devotion with God is far more important than your fellowship with the brethren.

You see, devotion isn’t singing and listening to Spirit lifting songs, listening to messages, getting engaged in church activities, talking church affairs, reaching out to a soul, or even talking God’s Word with a fellow brethren. Rather, it is an act of bringing out time to have personal fellowship with God. There are no third parties; it is a table for two; for God and for you!

The word, ‘fellowship’, is gotten from the Greek word, ‘Koinonia’, which means communion. Every time you spend time with God; that is, whenever you have your devotion with Him, you are communing with Him.

So many Christians are unaware that they spend more time with their cell phones than with God. Lots and lots of Christians have devotions that are not geared towards God.

You see, devotion is whatever you commit your time to. Whatever takes more time in your life is what you are devoted to; it could be your job, your dog, your television, or your face (for the ladies). Maintaining your devotion with God helps in the improvement of your soul.

I have come to discover that it is impossible to have proper fellowship with God when you do not love Him. In other words, you cannot have a great dinner (devotion) with God if you do not love Him from the depths of your heart.

If you love Him, you would confess your love for Him every day.

Spend more time talking with God than you do talking about Him.

Lord, I do not replace my devotion to you with my service to you. I do not devote my time to irrelevant things; you are my devotion!
