That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. 1 John 1:3

Yesterday, we saw, that in devotion, there are no third parties. It is strictly between yourself and God. We also got to understand that it is impossible to have proper devotion to God if you do not love Him. That is, the first step in enjoying that candlelit dinner for two is loving God.

Today, we’ll be looking at the required ingredients for you to have a successful and consistent devotion to God.

The first is recognizing what the Spirit wants. You see when a husband wants to give his wife a treat; he wants to have that special night out with her, he has first got to discover what she loves. In failing to recognize what she loves, he may have ruined the entire night. You have got to recognize what the Spirit of God wants.

Recognize those worship songs that drive you to a spiritual consciousness. Not every worship song edifies you.

So, the first step is in you knowing what He wants.

Secondly, you have got to take time studying the Word of God. Little wonder, 2 Timothy 2:15 says,

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

You can never have effective devotion with the Spirit of God if you do not give yourself to the study of God’s Word.

Do not study like you are reading a poem; study to show yourself approved, not to men, but to God. You have got to study diligently.

The Spirit of God cannot function effectively without the presence of the Word of God. After studying, take out time to meditate on the Word of God.

To meditate means to ponder, deliberate, and mull over the Word you have studied. Keep pondering on what you’ve studied; as you do so, the Spirit of God begins to unfold and reveal things that you initially didn’t see.

The more you meditate, the more you get understanding and revelations. Psalm 119:130 says,

The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.

A particular translation says the entrance and unfolding of the Word give light. The unfolding process is the meditation process.

Lastly, take out time to pray; pray in the Spirit, and pray in the direction of the things which you have learned through your study.

Lord, my fellowship with you is consistent. I remain in a connected level with you. My love for you grows every day!
