That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus. Philemon 1:6

I was perusing across the internet one certain day, and I came across a picture. It showed a woman, who was cooking. She had all the ingredients washed and sliced up, she had some in the pot already, but there was no source of fire to cook the meal.

It seemed like a normal picture until the Spirit of God began speaking to me. Do you know that picture is the typology of the lives of so many Christians? They never miss a service in God’s house. They are always on time, always eager to hear the Word; but immediately the service is over, that’s it for them.

They have all the ingredients to cook a great meal, yet they starve because they fail to ignite the burner and prepare that meal. For every time you hear the Word and do not practice it, you just starved yourself. You can never get results from the words you hear every Sunday if you fail to practice it.

James 1:23-25 says,

For if any be a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

The impression of the Word on a man’s life is soon forgotten if he decides to hear only. The Word would only be impressed in the Spirit of a man when he starts practicing the Word. You can never be a good swimmer by reading how to swim, without being in a pool. As you read, you are to test your knowledge by going into the pool, and practicing.

The blessings of God would only come to those that do not hear the Word alone but practice it as well. Do not stop at hearing the Word; start acknowledging it. Acknowledging the Word entails recognizing, accepting, and doing it!

Through our opening text, we see that until you start acknowledging the Word, the communication of your faith would remain ineffectual and inept.

The church teaches you the theory; the world gives you an opportunity to learn the practical aspect of what you have heard. God expects that with every of His Word you hear, you put it to work! God is in search of those who learn that they might do. We often say, ‘Practice makes perfect’. The church would never get to that stage of perfection, if we refuse to practice the Word!

I act in the knowledge of my faith. I am not only a hearer of the Word, but a doer as well. The communication of my faith is effectual!
