But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in his law doth he meditate day and night. Psalms 1:2

The Word of God is by far the most treasured substance on the earth. Its value is so magnanimous and far greater than the purest of gold. It cannot be compared to anything on the earth. But it takes a disciplined Christian to understand the value of the Word of God.

David was one who understood the significance of God’s Word; little wonder, he found delight in the law of the Lord. When you delight in something, it means that you take pleasure, enjoyment, and glee
in that particular thing. The MSG rendering of our opening text says,

…instead you thrill to God’s word; chew on scriptures day and night.

This scripture addresses those individuals who believe studying the Word is mind-numbing and dreary. Until you learn to take delight; that is, until you learn to find bliss while studying the Word, the blessings of the proceeding verse of our opening text wouldn’t be evident in your life.

It says,

And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

Let your will, desire, affection, every motive in your heart, and every moving principle in your soul, be on the side of God and his truth.

Take up the Word as your rule of life; that is, bring all your actions and affections to His holy standard. Do not be the type of Christian that studies the Word under fear or compulsion. The only time these ones remember their bibles is when they are facing one difficulty or the other, and they have no one else to turn to. Some only do so, after watching that horror movie and can’t sleep at night.

Only then do they remember 2 Timothy 1:7. No! Be the type of Christian that finds joy and ecstasy in the things of God. Another thing worthy of note in our opening text is the word, meditate.

To meditate means to ponder, deliberate, and mull over a particular thing. For the blessings of Psalms 1:3 to be evident in your life, you must have to learn how to meditate. You see, at first hearing, you haven’t heard at all. It is during the process of meditation, that you begin to get new insights and revelations.

DECLARATION
Lord, I take pleasure in your Word. I do not study because I’m forced to; I study because I love to! I am prosperous!
