Tuesday daily devotional by Pastor David Okoye (Ambassadors Word Diet, 30th JAN. 2018) – He Will Chastise You!

My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction: Proverbs 3:11

If you observe carefully, you’ll see that our opening text ended with a colon. This shows that the proceeding verse explains what was said in the earlier said verse. It says,

For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth. 

You know, the devil is actually wise; although, his wisdom is perverted. He uses the things we see as simple and irrelevant to rob a lot of Christians of their daily benefits from God.

Truth is a way. When a man walks in the truth, there would be no room for the devil. This is because
the devil would always perverse the truth of the Word of God. This is what gives him the room to destroy. Today, God is telling us through His Word, not to loathe His chastening.

To chastise means to reprimand or discipline. It is a correction that comes with an action. Take as an example; a garden. The beauty of a garden is evident in how well and how often the gardener prunes the garden. You would never see a garden that became beautiful without pruning.

The pruning process typifies chastising. If the devil wants to destroy you, he would make you disregard correction. You should never get tired of being corrected by God. However, this is not an excuse for you to be ‘unexcellent’.

NEVER DERIDE OR GET JADED OUT BY GOD’S CORRECTION AND CHASTENING! When you look at the account of David, you’ll see that one of the things that made Him, a man after God’s own heart was his love for correction. David appreciated correction from God.

The problem with Christians in our dispensation is that everyone is wise in their own way. Nobody wants correction. The proof of your Son-ship is seen in your response to chastening.

Hebrews 12:7-8 says,

If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.

An individual that cannot be corrected by God, his Pastors, and leaders is already walking in the way of death. When God chastises, He doesn’t do so with sin or sickness, He does with His words. God would withdraw His Words from that man that despises correction.

DECLARATION
Lord, I do not grow weary of being chastised. I embrace and appreciate all corrections given to me. I am an excellent Son!
