Friday daily devotional by Pastor David Okoye (Ambassadors Word Diet, 2nd FEB. 2018) – Well of wisdom

Wisdom resteth in the heart of him that hath understanding: but that which is in the midst of fools is made known. Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people. Proverbs 14:33-34

For the next couple of days, we would be looking at two very important subjects in Christendom; wisdom and righteousness. But today, we would be drawing from the wells of wisdom, to understand wisdom.

The AMP rendering of the first part of our opening text says,

Wisdom rests [silently] in the heart of one who has understanding, But what is in the heart of [shortsighted] fools is made known.

You see, wisdom can only settle in a home that has understanding. When a man’s heart is void of understanding, wisdom would not be able to produce. Let’s bring it down to the Word of God. The wisdom you get from God’s Word would not produce in you if you do not have an understanding of that Word.

This brings to mind one of the scriptures I love so much. 1 Corinthians 1:30 says,

But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption. 

You see, wisdom is engrafted in Christ. So if a man wants to get wisdom, all he needs to do is to get Christ. How then can a believer get Christ? Simply, by getting the Word; for Jesus Christ is the Word (John 1;14).

But the wisdom you receive would make no sense to you, until you understand. Understanding is gotten through the Spirit of God. Oh, little wonder 2 Corinthians 3:6 says,

Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.

If you try to produce from the wisdom engrafted in the Word, without the application of the Spirit, you would never get it. Only through the Spirit, can understanding come. Any other understanding gotten outside the circumference of God’s Spirit is perverted.

The Spirit of God broods over the Word you have heard; He begins to reveal things you never saw at first; He begins to grant you understanding.

Our opening text can be rewritten as the Word of God cannot produce or rest in a heart that doesn’t have the Spirit of God. It is like a symbiotic feeding.

The Spirit of God thrives and gets excited where the Word is present. The Word can only produce where the Spirit exists.

Declaration
The wisdom of God has made my heart its home. I allow the Spirit grant me understanding. I’m making progress daily!
