Tuesday daily devotional by Pastor David Okoye (Ambassadors Word Diet, 20th FEB. 2018) – The Way To Serve

Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men, because you know that the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free. Ephesians 6:7-8 (NIV)

The AMP rendering puts the underlined part of our opening text thus,

Rendering service readily with goodwill, as to the Lord and not to men.

This is selfless service. God expects every one of us to serve Him selflessly. God delights in a selfless service. A selfless service entails less of oneself. It is a service where self does not show up at all. One of the problems that emanates with leadership is SELF (that is, pride, ego).

If self dies, every other wrong thing would not find a place to cling on. To be a true leader, the first step is for you to kill self. There is a drive to do a whole lot more when self dies. Offering selfless service is one of the traits of a true leader.

There are certain characteristics of selfless service; one of which is DISCIPLINE. A true leader is
disciplined. Discipline is like caution. Charisma without character is catastrophic; character is an effect of discipline.

The HCSB rendering of our opening text says,

Render service with a good attitude, as to the Lord and not to men. 

It takes a disciplined mind to render selfless service even when reproved.

Ephesians 6:5-6 says,

Servants, be obedient to them that are [your] masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart.

Refuse to offer eye service. Serve wholeheartedly and with an understanding. A selfless service sets you on the path of harnessing the blessings of service. God delights in a selfless servant.

DECLARATION
I take advantage of the opportunities in front of me today. I kill my SELF daily. I serve with the right heart. I am a selfless servant.
