Saturday daily devotional by Pastor David Okoye (Ambassadors Word Diet, 24th FEB. 2018) – A righteous life

For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own
righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. Romans 10:3

The Christian life is not a human life. It is the life of God operational in a man. Whatever your perspective of the God-life is, that is the life you have.

Therefore, if God does not find it difficult to live a righteous life, then we should not. Living a righteous life is the easiest thing a child of God can do if only he can submit himself to the Lordship of God’s Spirit. Our opening text shows us something important: self-righteousness.

Those who go about establishing their own righteousness are the self-righteous folks. A Christian that does not submit himself to be led and lord by God’s Spirit is self-righteous.

Psalms 23:3 says,

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

This scripture shows us that righteousness has a path. Not all paths are the paths of righteousness. God is the one who leads us in the path of righteousness. Any man that leads himself is self-righteous.

Righteousness is a gift.

Romans 5:17 says,

For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)

You do not get gifts because you deserve it; you get gifts because the giver of the gifts deemed it fit for you. The day you gave your life to the Lord, you received gifts.

But every gift you received is founded on one gift- the gift of righteousness. You are righteous not because you are qualified but because God deemed it fit for you. Recognize the gift you have received and take advantage of it.

I do not establish my own righteousness I live righteously for I am led by God.

Romans 10:1-10, 1 Corinthians 1:7
