 Joseph is a fruitful bough, even a fruitful bough by a well; whose branches run over the wall. Genesis 49:22

A regular branch of a tree stays within the circumference of that tree – it doesn’t stretch so far from the tree; but there are some kinds of plant whose branches spread so far out, such that it becomes a real task to trace the main stem of the plant.

The latter was Joseph’s story. The above text is the definition of promotion – and indeed Joseph experienced promotion in his life.

Israel’s decree on Joseph’s life was just to further expand the fruitfulness Joseph already exhibited. Joseph was so blessed that the blessing became evident in the house of Potiphar.

His branches spread so much that he was able to feed families and nations during the seven years of famine. The blessing on Joseph’s life went beyond his immediate self.

This is the mindset the Christian ought to run with. A man who is indeed promoted is one whose branches run over the wall. You have been blessed to lend to nations and not to hoard the blessing for your personal use.

Your blessing isn’t a function of the things you have but of the things you are capable of releasing. God has blessed you to be the solution to the problems of others. Our Lord Jesus taught that “it is more blessed to give than to receive”.

As Christians we don’t consider how blessed we are based on what we have received or what people owe us; it is on the basis of how much you give.

Let your life be one that blesses and expands others such that their blessings can’t be easily traced to you.

This is the life of they that are in Zion: they are givers of life and substance whose blessings run over the walls.

Be the answer to someone’s prayer today.
