Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. 1 John 3:9

Christianity is a life of total victory over the world, sin and the devil through an active partnership between the child of God and the Holy Spirit.

Sin is anything that is not in accordance to the Word and will of God for you. Before the coming of Christ, the devil ran rampage on the earth, enslaving men to sin.

Sin is a bondage that ends in death. For “the wages of sin is death” The implication of this ensured every man was bound by the devil.

Romans 5:14 tells,

Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression

Before the coming of Christ death had the upper hand.

It reigned. Notice the reign is in past tense “reigned.” Meaning that though death reigned at a certain time, something else now reigns in its stead.

After the sacrifice of Jesus, a new type of reigning was introduced to the picture.

If by one man’s offense death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one Jesus Christ Romans 5:17.

This is the reign of righteousness.

The reign of those who been accorded this gift was made possible by the sacrifice of Jesus.

He went through deaths to pay the full prize of sin so if a man under the rule of sin comes to Him in Faith, accepting His works on the cross, that man will be transferred from the bondage of the reign of death into life.

In living out this new life, the God-man is victorious against sin and the devil because it is not in his new nature to sin.

All his new nature allows is righteousness. The devil knows this but a lot of God’s children don’t so they fall back to the wrong they did before.

For this reason our opening text says that the God-man cannot sin because the seed of God remains in him. The seed is the Word of God.

Little wonder John 5:39 tells “search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life…” The Word of God transforms your mind.

I am victorious over the world’s ways. Sin has no root in me because I have the nature of righteousness and holiness.
