For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. Romans 5:6

In Luke 19:41 Scripture shows us something striking, it says,

And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it

The proceeding verses tell us the reason why;

If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! But now they are hid from thine eyes…because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation (Verses 42 & 44

Timing is so important to God.

This was Jesus; God Himself weeping over the city of Jerusalem. Because Israel, like so many of God’s children today, patiently waited for years for a promised saviour, but when that saviour came, they couldn’t recognize Him. You see, God does not operate with the calendar of men. He does not operate with years, and days like a man, He operates with times and season.

If you are to ask a believer, when Jesus came, he would probably reply with something like ‘over 2,000 years ago.’ As a matter of fact, historians and Bible scholars have no specific date for the birth of our Lord Jesus. Most scholars assume a date of birth between 6 and 4 BC.

But when asking this question, we need to look beyond the year of His birth, to the time and season of His birth. Ecclesiastes 3:1 Perhaps the most popular scripture on time, says,

To everything, there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.

The AMP says,

There is a season (a time appointed) for everything and a time for every delight and event or purpose under heaven.

There is a season for every purpose under heaven. When a child of God discovers that there was a specific season appointed by God for the coming of the Lord Jesus, He would cease to assume or think that his life is left to chance.

Scripture records for us how a certain day, the Sadducees approached Jesus and asked a question, His reply stands true to this day,

Jesus answered, You’re off base on two counts; you don’t know your Bibles, and you don’t know how God works. Matthew 22:29 (MSG)
