And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, and to virtue knowledge. 2 Peter 1:5
The subject of faith is one that we cannot subtract in Christendom. Faith is more than a name; it is a life! Your faith must be inspired by God’s Word and His Spirit. If your faith emanates from your ambition, it is false.
Going back to our opening text, we see something crucial. Having faith alone is not enough. There are other things that you must add to faith for it to produce fully in your life.
The next 3 verses of our Memory verse for today says,
And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; and to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness charity. For if these things, be in you and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The first thing God wants us to add to our faith is DILIGENCE. You see, diligence is a denominator of success.
You would not be able to produce if you fail to add diligence to your faith. Take for example, when you’re preparing a meal. When you don’t add salt to that dish, you would most likely not get the taste of that meal.
Diligence is the salt in your success dish. It is a character that doesn’t just get you to success, but also keeps you there. The next thing God requires of us to add to our faith is VIRTUE. Virtue means substance or value.
Your faith would be equivalent to nothing if it has no substance. Little wonder, Hebrews 11:1 says,
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Your faith must have value for it to be faith. The next thing you ought to add to your faith is KNOWLEDGE.
You must be knowledgeable!
There is no amount of knowledge that would encumber a man. Knowledge is the first work towards faith.
If you miss it, you’ve missed out. Understand this; the Holy Ghost would not tell you everything. He only broods on the knowledge you already have.
This is why Apostle Paul had a deeper experience than any other Apostle- he was learned, and very knowledgeable. Study to prove yourself. Choose to walk in knowledge today!
I choose to be productive every day. I am a diligent and knowledgeable Son of God. I add substance to my faith. I make progress daily.
