Following public outcry and the seeming misconception about the Ruga Settlement Projects, an idea designed to stem the tide of herdsmen/farmers clashes across the country, President Muhammadu Buhari is said to have suspended the idea pending further notice.
The president, after consultations with stakeholders, resolved to put away the idea for a thorough review and well acceptable approach to the menace constituted to national security by the constant clashes between herdsmen and farmers.
A presidency source that hinted at this development, said the announcement would be made any moment from now with detailed explanations, going forward.

Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has hailed the suspension of Ruga settlements plan by the Federal Government as victory for all peace- loving Nigerians.
The Governor, who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary Terver Akase, stated the rejection of the Ruga settlement model was not personal but rather a struggle by Nigerians against impunity and injustice.
Ortom commended President Muhammadu Buhari for heeding to the call of Nigerians.
He said the decision to suspend the proposal shows that Buhari has heard the voices of majority of Nigerians on the matter.
He stated that truth has prevailed on the issue, quoting John 8: 32 “you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.”
Governor Ortom urged the federal government to take a step further to encourage pastoralists and other livestock owners to embrace ranching as the best model of animal husbandry.
Also, IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu reacted to the suspension.
“As Jubril/the Cabal bows to pressure and SUSPEND implementation of their #RUGA, let me salute #IPOB worldwide which took a principled stand and fired the FIRST salvo against this evident Fulanization agenda. Better yet, RUGA or not, a #referendum on Biafra restoration is NEXT.” He wrote on Twitter.
Apostle Johnson Suleman of Omega Fire Ministries has also reacted to the Ruga settlement suspension by President Muhammadu Buhari.
