A Kaduna State High Court has decided on August 5, 2019, to rule on the bail application filed by the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) Ibrahim El-Zakzaky and his wife Zeenat to travel abroad for medical treatment.
The application was filed by El-Zakzaky’s lawyer Femi Falana on behalf of his client on July 18, 2019, which the court has yet to approve.
Falana said that only a medical treatment in Egypt could help stabilize his clients health, as he claims the couples heath is getting worse by the day.
The prosecuting counsel Debris Bayero disagree by arguing that El-Zakzaky can have his treatment in Nigeria along with his wife. He insisted that there was no need for the court to grant them bail to travel abroad.
The ruling was adjourned by the Presiding Judge Justice Darius Khobo on the application to August 5.
El-Zakzaky and his wife have been in detention since 2015 over an alleged eight-count of culpable homicide, unlawful assembly, and disturbance of public peace.
The Iranian government has asked Nigerian government to release El-Zakzaky to go for medical treatment.
Shi’ite has clashed with Nigeria security Operatives multiple times during protest against their leaders continued detention which had claimed so many lives in the process.
