Ugandan Musician turned leading opposition legislator Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine has officially announced his bid in taking on long-time president Yoweri Museveni in the 2021 country’s national elections.
” On behalf of the people of Uganda, I am challenging you (Museveni) to a free and fair election in 2021″. said Wine at an event in the capital Kampala on Wednesday, July 24.
Wine appeared in a red tie and his signature red beret with many of his supporters at the event which he called a symbol of resistance. He explained his frustration on his Twitter Account @HEBobiwine on getting a venue for his campaign as the security agencies are intimidating the venue owners.
We shall address the press today at 10am at Magere. All efforts to get a different venue have been frustrated by security agencies intimidating all the venue owners and ordering them not to host any of our functions. We shall overcome.

The 37-year-old musician has a long history in challenging the current authorities as he has sung songs criticizing both the president and government.
Wine has been on house arrest since May of this year due to his performances were cancelled for violating safety regulations. This is a move he believes was made in an attempt to stop what he’s trying to do.
