According to multiple reports, WBA welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao and his family are now in quarantine, because the superstar fighter – who is also a senator in the Philippines – came in contact with a another fellow politician who tested positive for the coronavirus.

According to ABS-CBN, Pacquiao came in contact with senate president Aquilino Pimental, who tested positive for the coronavirus on Wednesday.

Local health authorities recommended that Pacquiao and his family stay in quarantine.

Pacquiao has already tested negative for the virus, after using a rapid test kit from South Korea.

The Filipino star would take his testing a step further if he or any family members in quarantine began to experience any of the symptoms related to the coronavirus.

“It’s an entirely different conversation when I’m feeling something strange in my body. I am willing to undergo swab testing for the sake of my family and my country, but I will go through the regular procedure. I believe that there are many more persons under investigation or PUI that should be prioritized in testing,” Pacquiao told ABS-CBN.

Pacquiao, 41-years-old, has been out of the ring since July 2019, when he dropped and decisioned Keith Thurman to capture the title. There were plans for Pacquiao to return to the ring in June or July of this year, but that scenario is likely not going to happen with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

In the Philippines, Pacquiao has been doing everything possible to support the local efforts to decrease the spread of COVID-19, by donating thousands of masks and testing kits.
