‘Wilder needs to rewatch the fight, Fury destroyed him, says Promoter

Frank Warren, promoter for WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, was shocked at some of the recent statements that were made by Deontay Wilder.

Back in February, Fury dropped Wilder twice and stopped him in the seventh round to capture the WBC world title at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. They fought to a controversial twelve round split draw, 14 months earlier at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

A trilogy fight is slated for the fall, after Wilder exercised the contractual option for an immediate rematch.

In a recent interview, Wilder explained that he doesn’t view Fury as a world champion. He says there were numerous issues, during the fight and before he ever stepped foot in the ring, that were contributing factors in his performance.

Warren disagrees, advising Wilder to review a video of the rematch – and then give Fury his deserved credit as the world champion.

“Wilder needs to go and put the television on, re-run the fight and see Fury is the champion, end of story,” Warren told Express Sport.

“Everyone when they lose, there’s always an excuse. Going into it, he said he was the fittest he’d ever been, it is what it is. That first round was the thirteenth round really, he caught Tyson with two good shots and Tyson took them and out-bullied the bully.”

To Warren, Fury’s dominant win was one of the biggest moments in his long career as a fight promoter.

“I think it’s one of the most significant fights I’ve been involved with as a promoter in my time in boxing,” Warren said.

“For a British fighter it ticked all the boxes. He was away from home, two guys in their primes, fighting the guy who has the best knockout ratio. And the biggest puncher in the division.

“He didn’t just go out there and nick it, he went out there and destroyed him. He done him in every single department, he did a job on him. It’s one of the best achievements from a British boxer fighting abroad, he took him to school.”
