In a significant win, Godswill Akpabio has been elected as the President of the Senate. The House of Senate held its election on Tuesday, with Akpabio emerging as the clear winner with 63 votes, surpassing Senator Abdulaziz Yari who received 46 votes.

Akpabio, who previously served as the Minister for Niger Delta Affairs from 2019 to 2022, represents the Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial zone. His election as the Senate President marks a new era of leadership in the Nigerian Senate.
