Nollywood actress and producer Adanma Luke has been suspended by the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) after the sudden death of actor Junior Pope.
The sudden death of renowned Nollywood actor Obumneme Odonwodo, also known as Jnr Pope, has prompted the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) to announce significant actions within the industry.
Two crew members involved in the boat accident that claimed the life of the Nollywood actor on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, are still missing.
Following this incident, the president of the actors guild, Emeka Rollas, did not hesitate to announce serious measures within the industry due to the recent tragic event.
The news of Jnr Pope’s death first surfaced on social media on Wednesday night, later followed by reports that he was alive. However, not long after, Mr. Rollas confirmed in a post on his Facebook account on Wednesday, April 11, that Junior Pope did not survive.
“No actor should work with producer Adanma Luke”
The Actors Guild promptly suspended all movies involving water areas or any scenes requiring boat riding until further notice.
This suspension was announced by the president due to the water accident that claimed the life of their colleague.
“All films involving riverine areas and boat riding are suspended indefinitely,” Mr. Rollas stated.
The president also directed that no actor should participate in any movie shoots at any location nationwide on Thursday, April 11, 2024.
As part of the actions against the producer of the movie in which Junior Pope and others were supposed to shoot, the actors guild declared that no actor should engage in any film production with producer Adanma Luke until further notice.
Adanma Luke is a movie producer in the Nollywood industry known for several films she has produced online.
According to Mr. Rollas, they are still searching for the remaining bodies of other individuals who fell into the water.
Moments before Junior Pope died in the water
According to an eyewitness, their boat collided with another because the boat rider failed to notice the oncoming boat quickly enough. As the boats collided, the one carrying Junior Pope and the others fell into the water.
On the day of the boat accident, Junior Pope made a post on his Instagram account where he talked about the risks actors take to entertain their fans.
Junior mentioned that he was crossing the River Niger on Tuesday, April 9, without a life jacket and emphasized that he has three children whom he will raise.
“It’s only them they’ve given birth to, it’s only me they’ve given birth to, I have three children I will raise them, I have three children I will raise them, oh brothers please, oh Jesus what is this, brothers please, oh please…
“Please take it easy… See the risks we take, people, to entertain you, live and direct on River Niger,” Junior Pope said.
Unfortunately, he did not survive as their boat capsized in the water.
